SAND WARS premiered in Paris and Germany in 2013 where it became the highest rated documentary of the year. The movie takes us around the world as it tracks the contractors, sand smugglers and unscrupulous property developers involved in this new gold rush.
Sand is now the second highest sought commodity across the world, second to water. The demand is growing and creating a global imbalance between commercial gain and environmental destruction. With 75% of the world’s beaches now detrimentally impacted by commercial mining activities, by the end of the 21st century, due to beach theft, beaches will be a thing of the past. New Zealand is the last developed country in the world that still permits close to shore sand sand mining (5-10 metres) to be sanctioned. Every effort must be made to ensure this activity ceases, and our beaches remain for our grandchildren to enjoy.
