This vivid film of Wagner’s romantic opera succeeds in conveying what had famously been called “the wind that blows out at you whenever you open the score’, including Daland’s boat anchoring against the Sandwike cliffs, the red sailed phantom ship, and the ghost crew rising from the dead.

The film is the fifth of six operas being screened at 2pm on the second Sunday of each month - April to September, as part of the 2026 Mangawhai Opera Lovers Film Festival.
