Two queens on one island. A recipe for disaster. Especially as both have a legitimate claim to the other’s throne. They are, after all, related… So the power politics are the name of the game. And for reasons of state, one of the heads has to role. This outstanding performance, with a stunning cast was filmed at La Scala in 2008.
The film is the second of six operas being screened at 2pm on the second Sunday of each month - April to September, as part of the 2026 Mangawhai Opera Lovers Film Festival.
Join us for a glass of bubbles and canapes at 1.45pm. There will be a short introduction to the film at the Mangawhai Opera Lovers Film Festival (5-10 minutes at 2pm) before the film is screened. A short, written synopsis of the opera will be provided.
